Na Kupon s Karandila is a CD that displays the band's ability to convert simple tunes into hot cocek. Most of the tracks featured are cover versions of Bulgarian pop-folk (chalga; contemporary twist on Bulgraian folklore music).
The CD starts off at high pace with Doko, Doko. The mood remains elevated with tracks like Izleze Mesetchina, a creative cover of Goran Bregovic's Moonlight. After Lechkov Kyucheck, the pace slows down to more casual and loose sound. The last few tracks pick up the speed again culminating with the popular Bulgarian hit Maimunka.
Even although most of the tracks are not original, this CD shows how creative Karandila can be with contorting and shaping other music into cocek. For people that haven't heard of the original versions, the CD will still entertain thanks to the brass section of Karandila, conveying a wide range of emotions. The overall compositions grabs your attention right away with clinical drumming and indefinable trumpet improvisations, flowing from jazz to gypsy.

12 Super Goreshti Kyucheka 2

12 Super Hot Coceks Part 2

by Various Artists
Diapason Records &
ARA Audio-Video
As the sequel to 12 Super Goreshti Kyucheka, this audio tape is another collection of instrumental hits by popular Bulgarian cocek groups. The tape addresses various and contrasting styles. Except for one fast-paced title by Karandila and an Arabian motif, most of the tape is pretty laid back and loose. There could have been a bit more variation in order to have the ideal supplementation of genres. Rumen is featured on three different tracks shining with his soothing but perplex solos.
The tape provides a temporary glimpse, a snapshot if you will, into the craft of popular Bulgarian cocek artists. Overall, it is a good collection, somewhat diverse but very appropriate for relaxed social gatherings.

Niama ne iskam...

No Way to Refuse...

Inspired by the pop-folk scene in Bulgaria, Karandila have decided to release yet another album with cover versions. In contrast to their previous attempt, Karandila have taken the originals a lot further and have transformed them far more radically. Their hard and in-you-face attitude shines through the entire album. Few of the tracks (Uchenicheska, Vurti Suchi and Serbez Penko) get very low and dirty.
With Kubinsko cha-cha, Karandila have taken a stab at Latino music. Unfortunately, there rest of the tracks have been derived only from Bulgarian chalga.

Underground Soundtrack

by Goran Bregovic
Composer Goran Bregovic introduced cocek to the Western mainstream through this CD. The soundtrack of the Underground movie was a masterpiece, containing classics like Underground, Cajesukarije and Wedding Cocek. There are some vocal tracks featured but the soul of the CD is in Boban Markovic's cocek performance. And what performance it is, packed with clinical trumpets and insane drumbeats.
This is easily the most successful cocek album ever.
